ORIGIN STORY
Neighborhood hang. Fiercely loyal fans. First dates and milestones. House music haven.
We opened in 2009 in a beloved historic upstairs haunt in the heart of Plaza MIdwood.
One of Charlotte’s first small plate restaurants, with a stellar sushi program, Soul was an early adopter of today’s robust cocktail culture and the first to make local house deejays an integral part of the dining experience.
A family business built on a shoestring, Soul juggled a tiny cramped kitchen and an intimate dining room with just 68 seats, no reservations and an often two hour waitlist. Known for our urban loft atmosphere and our flying peacock, the Soul vibe is as powerful as the food, drinks and music. We became a neighborhood hang, then a Charlotte staple, then a destination. By 2022, we had successfully weathered a pandemic - and lost our lease.
Owner/Chef/DJ Andy Kastanas took three years to resurrect his Soul at 4110 Raleigh Street. With the help of our original interior designer, Scott Weaver, we’ve reimagined our home for Soul’s fiercely loyal following in a larger space in nearby NODA.
We’ve more than doubled our dining room, added a semi-private dining room and a catering kitchen and we’re excited to offer more ways to bring Soul to your celebrations and events. Expect our award winning small plates, sushi and cocktails, along with an unwavering commitment to keep our dining room filled with house music, laughter and shared revelry.
Come make a core memory with us!
